Standards And Principles

PFT standard is the heart of the guarantee system, focusing on the management and operation of fair trade organisation in relation to their fair trade practices .It is strictly based on principles set by WFTO.
The standard is subject to periodic review and change by WFTO’s standard and guarantee system committee.

1. Creating Opportunities for Economically Disadvantaged Producers

- poverty reduction through fair trade forms a key part of the organisation’s aim.

2. Transparency and Accountability-

The organisation is transparent in its management and commercial relations. The organisation finds appropriate, participatory ways to involve employees and producers in its decision-making processes.

3. Fair Trading Practices-

PFT trades with concern for the social, economic and environmental well –being of marginalised, small producers and does not maximise profit at their expense.

4. Payment of a Fair Price-

A fair price is one that has been mutually agreed by all through dialogue and participation ,which provides fair pay to producers and can also be sustained by the market.

5. Ensuring no Child Labor and Forced labour-

PFT ensures that there is no forced and child labour in its workforce and members or homeworkers.

6. Commitment to Non Discrimination, Gender Equity and Freedom of Association-

PFT does not discriminate in hiring, remuneration. The organisation has a clear policy and plan to promote gender equality that ensures that women as well as men have the ability to gain access to the resources.

7. Ensuring Good Working Conditions-

PFT provides a safe and healthy environment for employees and producers.

8. Providing Capacity Building-

Organisation develops the skills and capabilities of its own employees or producers.

9. Promoting Fair Trade-

The organisation raises awareness of the aim of Fair Trade. The organisation provides its customers with information about itself, the products it markets, and the producer that produce the products

10. Respect for the Environment-

PFT respect the environment.
